This weekend I finished transferring the pre-1990 Pink Film Database over to its Tumblr equivalent. 1,808 posts so far, and that's just half of it, since I'm going to merge the newer Blogger Pink Film Archive into one Tumblr archive after I've adjusted the post years back 20 years so that the timeline between the two is consistent. Also, I dived back into the wonderful, obscure world of busty VHS titles, and added Akira Takatsuki's pioneering pre-Cinema Unit GAS big-bust series for VCA: The bakunyû (ザ・爆乳).

I'd really like to add all these to IMDb, but it's hard to find exact release dates for these early videos. The main series seems to have run between 1994 to around 2001. The first release starred JAV BBW icon, Mariko Morikawa. Another release of hers about, the same time, has an almost identical title, but I can't tell if it is part of this series or not.

There are a few related sub-series, including the BBW-themed The bakunyû hôman musume series (ザ・爆乳豊満娘), three volumes of which star Yôko Koizumi. In general, I'm finding I like Tumblr more than Blogger, though I do see a couple things Blogger does better. The main thing is that Tumblr's searching function is almost non-existent. Unless you include the search term as a "tag", and then type exactly that term, you ain't going to find it in the blog. Even Google-searching doesn't seem to work. That's a major fault. I've started adding the video code as tags, but I'm afraid I might have to start including the titles too... Also, Tumblr supports HTML, but doesn't give you any kind of HTML editor/generator. I've been using Blogger's editor to get the HTML code, then either saving it as a template for later Tumblr posts, or just copying and tweaking it for my purposes at Tumblr. Cross-posting between this blog and its sister blog at Tumblr is easy with HTML too-- just copy & paste.

For this blog, probably the most significant of my Tumblr activities today is that I decided to take a tentative, preliminary start on that JAV actress database/blog that I've been thinking about for a awhile. This will have bio info and images of my favorite actresses/models, linked to their appropriate JAV archive/Pink archive tags for the filmographies I have compiled therein. IMDb linkage will ensue (I'm a bit behind on that, but always leave a blank marker to remind me of submissions that need to be made.)

The only entry currently at this new archive is the amazing, spectacular, and all too mysterious Chihiro, whom we discussed in May of last year. Ironically, because I am unaware of any videos or films in which she appeared, links to the other databases won't apply in her case, only a storage of images. But she is the reason that I decided to start the archive now. I spent a lot of time hunting around and finding images of her last year, but now those are all inaccessible on my old hard disk. I came across two big stashes of her images yesterday. Now I have arranged them in something like a logical procession, and want to save them all together in one place, just in case of more future hardware trouble. So, HERE IS CHIHIRO. Feast your eyes, ladies and gentlemen! She is GORGEOUS!

Last night, rather than make this post on time, I finished the first step in my next IMDb BBW JAV project: the Pocha Pocha Princess Pretty series. I first added new info to the existing BP articles-- the main thing was getting the name of the director off the DVD covers. They were not always listed at informational web pages, but they are on the DVD cover images. There seems to be only one director for the entire series. I am giving his name as Alto Joa, but he varies his name a bit. At the beginning of the series he calls himself just "Joa" (ジョア). From #6 to #10 he is "Ultra Joa" (ウルトルジョア), and from #11 on, "Alto Joa" (アルトルジョア - ''lit.'' "Arutoru Joa"). I have no idea what this name is supposed to mean, or if I am translating it correctly. Since the middle version of his name ("Ultra Joa") seems to refer to Ultra Man (ウルトラマン), perhaps the last version of the name should actually be "Altra Joa"?... but that doesn't make much sense... Previously, in IMDb/BP work, I finished the IZM/ICD project-- starting articles on the ladies in the video stubs which I had started last week.

Usagi Minagi in the Pocha Pocha Princess Pretty series: now on IMDb!

The big news at IMDb, Pink film-wise, is that they have finally added the major award ceremony for the genre-- the Pink Film Award. I asked for it to be added in January, and only this week was it added. Like all submissions at IMDb, the process is extremely mysterious, confusing, frustrating and difficult to figure out, and the instructions are absurdly unhelpful... I spent a few hours hunting for an adequate explanation on how to add an award type to the main award page (i.e., Best Film, Best Actor), and never found it. There are pages and pages explaining how to add an award but not one of those pages tells you the page to add it to... they all  say to click "Edit page" at the front page. From there-- apparently, at least some of the pages say so-- you go to an "Awards Master Form" to enter all the info on the new award. But instead, when you click on that, it gives you a drop down menu of awards to add to the page. And it says "No awards have been entered for this event", and instructing you to go back to the main page, click "edit page", and repeat ad infinitum... I finally just submitted a Best Picture for 2013, adding "Best Picture" as a new field to be added in the "Award" field. I will wait to see if I get any decent instructions on how to do it correctly. IMDb communications are notoriously slow and unhelpful though, so I'm not holding out much hope for the near future... While I'm waiting to figure out how to enter awards correctly, the next major BP/IMDb updating project I should embark on is Cinema Unit GAS... and speaking of which, let's look in on Akira Takatsuki's pet project and see what he's up to lately:

118cm-K-cup newcomer Hana stars in the first of GAS' trio of new releases, all due out on July 1. The title: Shinjin: Chikubi ijirare suki no K-cup zutto ijitte, ippai sutte (GAS-325), tells us that Hana-san enjoys having her nipples sucked and played with-- apparently even if she has to do it herself, as the next image shows.

Stills like the one above had me at first thinking that this was MAGURO's famed Masked Kaori, but it turns out that this is just the traditional face-hiding habit of amateur/first-time models. In other scenes, she's not wearing the mask, but she hides her face with her hands.

Besides an impressive bust-- typical of Cinema Unit GAS models-- New Hana also has what advertising promotes as being a "foreigner-style" big butt, which we can admire up above. A video clip showing Hana's front and rear in action can be downloaded in WMV or MP4 format.

Bakunyû chijo Kimiko kaodashi! Kanô Kimiko (GAS-326) stars Kimiko Kanô, whom we met in a post of a couple months ago on the occasion of her own debut in GAS-319. A video clip promoting this sophomore effort can be seen in WMV or MP4 format.

After her own face-hiding first appearance (she wore large, dark sunglasses), this enticing "jukujo" (MILF) goes bare-faced and takes the traditional next step in the career of the aspiring AV actress: Unleashing her previously-supressed erotic desires by playing the role of the chijo, or "perverted woman".

Next month's last-numbered release is a compilation video, which I usually don't pay much attention to, since they're just re-hashes of previously-released material. This one, however, is the most interesting release of the month. First, it is the second release in conjunction with GAS' tenth anniversary (first celebrated in the career retrospective DVD release, GAS-321), but this is a retrospective not only of GAS' output, but of the entire big-boob genre in Japanese AV over the past 20 years. A FASCINATING subject! Second, just showing GAS' own models would give a fairly wide view of this genre, but Takatsuki has engaged the cooperation of other studios who played a significant role in the JAV big-boob genre: Kimiko Matsuzaka-discoverer Tôru Muranishi's Diamond Video, Mariko Morikawa-debuting VCA, JHV, Atlas 21, and Moodyz. It is titled GAS 10 shûnenkinen sakuhin: Bakunyû no 20-nen, joyû 100-nin 8-jikan (GAS-327), and a video clip in WMV or MP4 format is available.

Though the 20-year mark would be the anniversary of the legendary Mariko Morikawa's debut-- the first JAV BBW star, in my book-- it's good that this will cover Kimiko Matsuzaka also, since she was the real start of the "Big Bust Boom" (kyonyû boom), with her debut in 1989. (Some emphasis is placed here on the Kimiko Matsuzaka-era term "kyonyû" as opposed to "bakunyû" era introduced with Mariko Morikawa's debut in 1994). Having lived through those eras, and followed them from inside and outside Japan, I can speak with a little knowledge myself. I remember opening up a magazine in a Japanese bookstore in 1988 and being hit between the eyes by Kimiko's magnificent bazooms, and realizing that JAV would never be the same again-- and thankfully, Kimiko was just the beginning! She became a star in Japan, appearing in mainstream media and TV shows. The big boob movement was underway, and all the studios searched out bigger boobs to display.

The caption above calls Mariko Morikawa Japan's first "bakunyû"-- "Bomber boob" or huge-boob-- model. GAS/Takatsuki no doubt wants to emphasize the term bakunyû, since he is the one who coined the term, which has since become a common word in Japanese boob-related vocabulary. Also, Mariko was literally the first bakunyû girl, since she was the star of the first video in the "bakunyû" series-- The Bomber Tits Vol. 1: Bomber Girl. Though her boobs certainly were the most impressive and promoted aspect of her body, I see her more as the first step towards true BBW acceptance in the JAV. As luck would have it, I was in Japan in November 1994, right at the time that Mariko Morikawa made her debut and shook up the JAV industry with her ultra-voluptuous body. I bought a copy of "D-Cup Japan" at that time, and was as impressed with her as I had been with Kimiko five years before. No actress before Mariko had been so chubby, and yet popular. This was the dawn of the BBW genre in JAV that we so enjoy today.

As far as video reviews go, we've been on a bit of a nostalgic run lately, looking at videos released decades ago... Last week we looked at the last video in the career of Kimiko Matsuzaka, and the week before that we watched a video from Yôko Koizumi. But before moving on to more recent releases-- next week, maybe-- tonight let's take one more look back at the origins of the BBW/busty boom in JAV that we enjoy so much today. I present for your enjoyment tonight, the actress whom I consider, after Kimiko, the next major step in the appreciation of big-boobery, and BBW in Japanese erotic entertainment: The delectable, the delicious, one, the only Miss Mariko Morikawa!

The Video

We mentioned tonight's video during a review of the career of Mariko in a post back in March 2013. This is the sixth release in The Bomber Girl series: The Bomber Girl Vol. 6: Mariko Morikawa 124cm 80-Q (ザ･爆乳vol.6 森川まりこ - The bakunyû vol. 6 Morikawa Mariko; VCA / D-Cup; TFC-4009). Curiously, I see images of scenes on the video cover which are not in the video I will be reviewing tonight. The bound-boobs image, and the front cover image, for example. But the title-card screenshot from the video-- seen below-- as well as scenes in the video which are on the cover indicate that this is the correct video cover.

The few sites I've seen that list this video (currently there are none) attribute the directing to Japanese big-boob pioneer, Akira Tatsuki. But now that I've seen the video itself, the closing credits name Shinobu Okada (岡田忍)-- a name unknown to me-- as the director. Even Japanese Wikipedia, in its filmography of Mariko, lists the release date of this video as unknown, but by situating it within the series, I would guess that it was released in late 1995 or early 1996. This video, more than Mariko's other videos, has been harvested for clips at video sites like Xhamster many times, usually unidentified except, sometimes, for Mariko's name.

The Content (Warning: Spoilers!)

She's got LEGS!

The video starts with a brief pre-title sequence, in which the camera takes a loving survey of Mariko's impressive physique. Her boobs, of course, are her most renowned feature-- and we'll take several looks at them-- but first, let's pause to admire one of Mariko's lesser-praised attributes: Get a load of these thighs! For an AV star of that time, Mariko was incredibly chubby, and legs like that, which I absolutely love, were nowhere to be seen in JAV in the mid '90s. I remember reading sarcastic comments from regular JAV fans at the time, mocking her as being too fat to be an attractive AV idol, and just getting by on her boobs. It's really after Mariko though that appreciation of the BBW started coming into the JAV.

Those gorgeous thighs having been sufficiently noted, here is what comes to the fans' minds with they hear the name "Mariko Morikawa". And so, let us proceed with the review...

Weighty matter are under discussion

Time-wise, probably the majority of this video is taken up with Mariko seated, drinking orange juice and talking to her interviewer. I didn't listen to much of it, but, as is traditional with the AV interview, the first subject of discussion seems to be Mariko's body. Mariko says that the weight of her boobs is 1.8kg (4lbs) a piece, or 3.6kg (8lbs) for the pair.

Two brief clips are inter-cut with the first interview segment, which, at ten minutes, is the longest. The first one shows her posing for a photo-shoot. Images of this shoot, such as the one seen above, could be found in Mariko's magazine appearances in the mid '90s.

More jump-roping, please!

The second brief scene inter-cut into the first interview shows Mariko jumping-rope with her boobs exposed. I wish both these brief, inter-cut scenes-- especially the jump-roping-- had gone on much longer. Slow-motion, and total nudity could have made the jump-roping clip into a real classic. As it is, it's just a glimpse of what might have been.

The first extended nude scene consists of a series of paizuri variations-- standing, sitting, lying down, Mariko on top, Mariko on bottom... This scene, like most paizuri scenes, is unsatisfying to me because it is heavily pixeled-out/fogged to hide the man's genitalia. Consequently, we never get a real view of Mariko's boobs-- the pixeling interferes with a view of them. This is the first scene from the video that I remember finding online. After this, we return for another chat with Mariko for about three minutes. She's a cute girl, with a sexy persona, inviting lips, and chubby cheeks, so it is not entirely a waste of video to see her just talking.

The next sequence is one I have seen many times online, such as this clip of it at Xhamster. It is one of my all-time favorite Mariko clips. Mariko is oiled up, completely nude, and squirming around and masturbating on a slick mat for about seven minutes.

This is a highly arousing scene, with Mariko's voluptuousness well on display and incredibly lovely to behold. The only draw-back is that, because she is entirely nude, those pesky pixels and fogging interfere with a full view of the lady. I don't really mind the fogging so much when it hides the man, but it is annoying when it's hiding the actress.

Later on, some milkish liquid is poured on Mariko, which, visually, serves at least three functions. First, it's just highly erotic watching her flop around in that liquid. Second, it shows us a big-boobed lady with milk, emphasizing her mamallian properties. Third, it serves as a visual symbol for the cum Mariko's enthusiastic male audience would like to spew all over her...

After another couple minutes of interviews, we come upon the second sequence that is sometimes found online: Mariko massaging a guy. Mariko looks absolutely gorgeous in this ten-minute section, but, unfortunately, she spends most of the time giving the guy a hand-job and playing with his asshole. This is unappealing, and ruins an otherwise great look at Mariko in action.

In the next two-minute interview, the interviewer quizzes Mariko on her opinion of penises and what size she likes. Not too big, she says, and first estimates 19cm (7 1/2"), but the interviewer haggles her down to 13cm (5"), to which she agrees. One wonders whether there is an agenda for personal gain behind the interviewer's bargaining her down.

The next sequence can also be found in clip form online, like here, at Xhamster. Mariko is tied and blindfolded in bed while a guy massages and sucks her boobs. He cuts her mesh blouse and plays with her boobs, which are seen in close-up, revealing their post-pregnancy look. He next pulls out a dildo and works on her boobs and pussy with it.

He works on her more once she is untied. He massages her boobs from behind, and then works more on her pussy. Lots of pixel-fogging is involved here. Mariko then fellates him first through his underpants, and then in the raw.

This sequence concludes with some straight sex in a few positions. Mariko gives us lots of good boob-bouncing while on her back. She gets on top at one point and really gives a spectacular display of wild bouncing boob flinging. This brief segment is top-notch.

The video ends with a cute little gimmick in which we are shown three close-up images of cleavage, and Mariko challenges us to guess which one is her boob cleavage. The other two are her butt crack, and her male partner's butt crack. I won't spoil your fun by giving away the answer. Take the quiz yourself!

The Opinion

Mariko takes out the subject under discussion

This is a very well-filmed, basic, old-fashioned Japanese porno video. It is a bit talky, with a solid ten minutes taken up at the beginning in which Mariko just sits at a table, in her bathrobe, talking to the cameraman. Looking at it today, this is probably the major flaw in the video. But you have to remember, that the very early AVs-- in the '80s-- were thirty minutes, with almost no nudity, mostly just stories, acting, and talking with very short nude/sex scenes. So, in the context of its time, this one-hour video actually has plenty of nudity going for it. And Mariko is a very cute, chubby little lady. She smiles and laughs a lot, seems to be fairly bright, and to be enjoying herself. Once in a while during the interviews, she does take out a boob or two to display them when they come up in the conversation.

What we want to see in a Mariko Morikawa video

The camera work is fine, giving us many, many gorgeous looks at Mariko, zoom-ins on body parts just long enough to let us stare for a while at what we want to see, yet not so long that it becomes annoying. There is no story per se. I didn't listen to the interview, which pops up throughout the video, but it's possible that these talks do provide a narrative/introduction to the sex scenes. In any case, I just watched the video for its eye-candy, a point of view I assume most viewers will take.

The only scene that I found disappointing in this video was the paizuri scene, because of the pixels blocking out Mariko's boobs. Since we can't see her face or anything else, what is there left to look at? The scene where Mariko massages the guy, playing with his asshole, also, had some drawbacks to it, but we do get to see all of Mariko in that one. Regardless, Mariko is a very sexy little lady, and it's arousing just to see her in action-- even if she is not all-exposed.

Final Verdict

Model: Highest rating. It's Mariko Morikawa, that says it all. Short and cute, chubby, incredibly busty, sexy, enthusiastic... Mariko-san is the classic early Japanese BBW model.

Video: Highest rating. The video may be a little talky by today's standards, but it has more than enough visual stimulation to keep any Asian BBW-admirer satisfied. The scene of Mariko squirming around on the mat, alone, is well worth the price of admission. I consider this video to be a JAV BBW/busty classic, and an essential item in the collection of any fan who is interested in the history of the genre. Check it out!

Bakenyu Series

Here's a series I came across during my research for the review of Mariko Morikawa's career. My March 29, 2013 post on the "Monster Bust Mariko" video caused me to research more on "The Greatest Bust" series, which it claimed to be part of. The Video prefix was "TMX", and it dates from the mid/late 1990. Below is a listing of the videos I could find in that series.


The star of the first VHS cover I find (TMX-052) is Kirara Kamiya (神谷きらら), who looks very much like Maria Tachibana, a big big-bust star of that era. A little Googling pulled up this Japanese blog entry which claims that this is an alias of hers-- and I don't doubt it. For more images of Maria, who was one of my favorites at that time-- late 1990s-- poke around more in that Japanese blog, which is entirely devoted to Maria's video and soapland careers.

Here is the video which inspired tonight's post: Monster Bust Girl Mariko 123cm Q-Cup (バケ乳 123cm Q-Cup 森川まりこ - Bakenyû 123cm Q-Cup Morikawa Mariko) (TMX-054; 1996). It is the only video cover in the TMX- series which includes a sub-series title, "The Greatest Bust Series".


The star of the last entry in the series I can find-- TMX-055, is Reimi Fujinomiya, a prolific big-bust star who has never appealed much to me. She doesn't look bad in this video cover, but in most of her appearances, her face is downright homely.

Back to 1994 with Gal's Dee

Tonight let's take a step back in time to the dark ages of busty/BBW appreciation in Japan. Kimiko Matsuzaka had debuted five years earlier in February 1989, ramping up the "kyonyu boom" to a good degree, and busty models were appearing more and more frequently in Japanese erotic entertainment. 1994, the year we look at today, saw the debut of some major big bust stars, including Mariko Morikawa, whose mainstream popularity is said to have started the appreciation of the BBW in Japanese popular entertainment. In tonight's post we have the magazine covers for that year to the publication Gals Dee, whose goal it was to show off the bustier models of the day.

According to Arzon, Mariko's birthday is coming up next week. She was born October 7, 1972, and began appearing in AVs in 1993. She stands 156cm and her measurements are 95-60-90cm.

July 1994

July 1994 was a significant month not just for big-bust fans, but specifically for us Japanese BBW fans. It marked the release of Ultra Q-Cup 124cm: Tits Way Too Huge, Mariko Morikawa's JAV debut. Appropriately, the July 1994 issue of Gal's Dee lists Ms. Morikawa's name on the cover, indicating she has a pictorial in the magazine.

A visual comparison of Morikawa-san with all the other ladies in today's post shows she was much chubbier than was the norm in Japanese entertainment at the time. In fact Japanese sources I've seen consider her the first BBW AV star. Her Japanese Wikipedia page notes that she also appeared in Gal's Dee in September, October and December 1994. In a post in March 2013, I showed images of Mariko which are supposedly from the April 1994 Gal's Dee, though I find no other proof that she was in that issue.

August 1994 saw the debut of another major big-bust star of the '90s: Shinobu Hosokawa, (細川しのぶ) and her name is placed prominently placed on the cover of the Gal's Dee issue for that month.

Born July 24, 1974 with measurements of 90(G)-57-86, she was one of the most popular models among the foreign audience. I never found her all that attractive, preferring chubbier girls like Kimiko and Mariko.

She had an extensive AV and soapland career, and appeared in at least three Pink films. Above is the poster to Kyonyû shiofuki reijô (巨乳潮吹き令嬢; 1995) in which she starred and acted with Pink film veterans, the gorgeous and multi-talented Yumi Yoshiyuki and the late, great Yumika Hayashi.

As our survey of these covers shows, "busty" in the Japanese popular entertainment world of 1994 still meant just having boobs. A little cleavage went a long way in those days. The debut of Mariko Morikawa this year, prominently covered in the pages of Gal's Dee, led the way to the super-busty/BBW models we are so lucky to have on hand these days thanks to labels like IZM, JAMS, and GAS.
