Bomber Girl Mariko

My computer time today was spent translating and sorting those gay Pink Films from yesterday. They're all ready to be copied over and cleaned, and I think I'll start that project either tonight or tomorrow. Probably most of the week will be involved in the cleaning, then I can start uploading the new images after that...

Tonight's visit with Mariko Morikawa reviews her work with Akira Takatsuki and his Cinema Unit GAS studio. Mariko first worked for Takatsuki in the video, The Bomber Tits Vol. 1: Mariko Morikawa: B104 75I-cup (ザ･爆乳vol.1 森川まりこ　B104 75I - The bakunyû vol.1 Morikawa Mariko B104 75I; MC-44). The Japlish blurb on the video cover promises, "Ultra heavy melon bomb attack to your cock". While we Japanese BBW fans must honor Mariko as one of the first offerings the Japanese AV industry made for our tates, this video deserves special respect from us. 
There is some confusion on the order of release of these videos, and I'm not sure which of the two  here (above or below) is the original release and which is the re-release. Proof that they are indeed the same video is in the back covers. In the one above, the image at lower right is the same as the one at top, middle on the cover below. According to Arzon, this video, with the cover above, was released on December 14, 1994 by Big Morkal / Muscat. However this cover gives the "Q-cup" gimmick, while the one below gives the "I-cup", which has been claimed to be the original measurement, given by Mariko herself. (Later publicity claims she was low-balling her measurement out of modesty.) Just in doing research for this post, however, I have discovered that Big Morkal is still in existence, and has an official entry for the video, which gives the release date as August 17, 1994-- making this Mariko's SECOND release. Some articles state it's her first, though this has always been confusing because of the December release date reported by Arzon & other retailers.

The cover above, VCA / D-Cup (TFC-4001) is given a reported release date of September 2004 at AV-Channel, and April 13, 2003 here. Since the I-cup is reported on this cover, but the Q-cup on the one above, this is increasingly looking like the original release. All confusion aside, it seems pretty certain that this is video is the inaugural release in Takatsuki's legendary early big-bust Bomber Girl series. As such, this video, is the origin of the Cinema Unit GAS company, without which the Japanese big-bust and BBW genre would not exist. The very term bakunyû ("bomber boobs" / huge boobs) originates with this first video in this seminal series... The Japanese BBW genre was born here. Ladies and gentlemen, we are in the presence of history. Please remove your hats and observe a moment of silence in gratitude...



Mariko remains closely associated with the early history of the Bomber Boobs / Bomber Girl / Bakunyû series. She also starred in the sixth release, The Bomber Girl Vol. 6: Mariko Morikawa 124cm 80-Q (ザ･爆乳vol.6 森川まりこ - The bakunyû vol. 6 Morikawa Mariko; VCA / D-Cup; TFC-4009), also directed by Takatsuki. The only accurate release date I can find is April 13, 2003, which must be a re-release. Based on established release dates for surrounding videos in The Bomber Girl series, we can guestimate the original release as mid-1990s.

The front cover to the VCA / Monroe (ＶＣＡ / モンロー) compilation video, The bakunyû: Deluxe Bomber Girls (ザ・爆乳　ＤＥＬＵＸＥ　ＢＯＭＢＥＲ　ＧＩＲＬＳ; MO-002; September 27, 1996) features an image from Mariko's first Bomber Girl appearance.

Mariko remains associated with Cinema Unit GAS' roots to this day. For the February 26, 2010 compilation DVD, which exploited the new relaxing of mosaic laws, Bakunyû best 4-jikan: Shin kijun mosaic de yomigaeru bakunyû joyû-tachi < aka-ban > (爆乳ベスト4時間　 新基準モザイクで甦る爆乳女優たち＜赤盤＞); GAS-156). The official GAS page generously offers a a video clip, which I can't get to load, since my memory stick is almost full, and I don't want to download it on the family's shared hard disk, but I assume Mariko is in it...

This shot from the promotional clip to the June 2012 self-nipple-licking GAS compilation, Self chikubi name onanii 4-jikan (セルフ乳首舐めオナニー4時間; GAS-248) advertises 25 girls from the Bomber Girl era. Mariko is used as the representative of the classic era.

On the Ropes with Mariko: Q-Cup Slave

I spent most of my online day identifying and sorting posters from ENK, the gay Pink Film studio. I've accumulated enough of their posters that I wound up starting a stand-alone filmography for the studio. Though the films themselves don't interest me, they are an important part of Pink Film history. Many of the major Pink writers, directors and performers work in this sub-genre of Pink film: Yutaka Ikejima, Kyôko Godai, Hisayasu Satô, Sachi Hamano, Yumi Yoshiyuki, to name a few...

Speaking of a genre which I must address only because it is part of the history of Japanese erotic entertainment, but not because it does anything for me personally, we come to the inevitable S&M action. Though she doesn't seem to have made much of a career specialty of it, Mariko did dabble in a little B&D in her career. Above we have evidence of her foray into this genre from a magazine shoot which appears to tie in to the video under consideration tonight.

 
She starred in the November 30, 1994 Taiyô tosho (大洋図書) video Q-cup slave (Q－CUPスレイブ), directed by D-ji Nakano (中野D児). The video has a subtitle of "Bizarre Life 30", indicating it's part of a series... a series I don't have much interest in, since it seems mainly to focus on the bondage, with luscious BBW Mariko being just a coincidental participant.It has an Amazon listing which confirms the above information, but doesn't give the video code, which I can't locate.

This video was released on July 12, 1996, in rental-only, through Tôkyô onkô / Grape (東京音光 / ＧＲＡＰＥ) with a video code of TN-030.

 Since this is one of Mariko's videos I've actually seen, maybe a plot synopsis is in order. The first scenario is my favorite, having a bit of twisted humor to justify its S/M antics. It starts with a shady-looking businessman wheeling a package through a suburban neighborhood.

 He drops off the order with his customer, who, upon opening it, reveals that inside the wrapping is none other than kidnapped schoolgirl Mariko. He inspects the package, finding to his horror that Mariko has big boobs, and he HATES big boobs. "That idiot got the orders mixed up again!" he fumes...

 So, naturally, he ties her up, and abuses those big boobs that he despises so, slapping them around, growling, "What the hell am I going to do with these things?!" The gentleman doth protest too much, methinks...

 The camera zooms in on the offending items to give us the video's title "Q-Cup Slave". This is a relief because, unlike many of these newer actresses I review here, I actually saw several of Mariko's videos back in my bachelor days, but don't remember the titles... There are a couple more I could give synopses to from memory, but I don't know which videos they are...

 The next scenario is my second-favorite in this little opus. In it, Mariko plays a call girl who takes the cash from her client's wallet while he is occupied in the restroom. Foolishly wasting precious time counting the money before bolting from the room, her victim catches Mariko in the act, ties her up, and has his way with her.

 Mariko's big boobs don't seem to be an issue at all with this gentleman, as they are the only part of her anatomy-- besides the necessary lower regions-- which he disrobes, so that they might flop about during his exertions. In a fitting bit of poetic justice, he robs Mariko of her cash after having satisfied himself on her body.

 After these two amusing little bagatelles, the video descends into rougher stuff. Mariko is bound in plastic and kicked around. Has candle-wax poured on her, and is generally abused. This kind of stuff is just repulsive to me, but I guess some people enjoy it...

 There is a fairly decent sex scene right before the end, with Mariko's voluptuousness in good display. But again, the ropes ruin it for me... Well, almost ruin it...

After all her degradation has come to an end, the camera freezes on Mariko, while giving us the credits. The above seems to be a cast listing, by which I guess that the director (D-ji Nakano) was one of the actors in the proceedings. He's listed last of the three actors at bottom left. The other two male cast member are Tatsurô Hibino (日比野達郎) and Pink Film veteran, Ryuji Yamamoto (山本龍二). The whole video is currently available for viewing on XHamster under the title "80s BBW JAP".
 Though, as I've often pointed out, B&D/S&M doesn't do anything for me, the models who are involved in it often do arouse my interest. As luscious Naomi Tani, S&M Queen of the Roman Porno era and lust of my youth, pointed out, S&M guru Oniroku Dan said that the perfect bondage model must have a good amount of flesh so that the ropes can produce some noticeable effect. Where Oniroku-sama and I differ is that I just want to worship that flesh, not tie it up...

Bully for Boobs! Mariko, AS-388

Mariko Morikawa's fourth video was her third with Athena (アテナ映像) and director Hikaru Kitô (鬼闘光) Big Tit Riot: Bully This Bust! (巨乳暴動　この胸をイジめて！ Kyonyû bôdô: Kono mune wo ijimete!; AS-388; October 21, 1994).

I don't have any images that I can accurately link to this video, so I'm posting the above and to the left purely for your viewing pleasure. Note that like Mariko's previous two videos for Athena, it was released on the 21st of the month. September seems to have been skipped. Diamond Eizô had a practice with their big-boob star, Kimiko Matsuzaka, in which they would always release her latest video on the first of the month, which they called "Big Boob Day" (巨乳の日 - Kyonyû no hi). Whether Athena intended such a thing with Mariko, I do not know, but since the four videos for which we have precise dates of release are all on the 21st, it seems like more than coincidence.

I'm not 100% sure, but I suspect the nice images we have in this post  come from Mariko's photo-book, from photographer Jin Makita (牧田仁) entitled, appropriately enough, MARIKO: Mariko Morikawa Photobook (MARIKO―森川まり子写真集 - MARIKO-- Morikawa Mariko shashinshû). Information on this item is scarce, though Amazon has a listing which gives its release as September 1994, from Kasakura Publishing (笠倉出版社), ISBNs: ISBN-10: 4773001968; ISBN-13: 978-4773001969.

Rare Mariko

The next Mariko Morikawa video we look at seems to be something of a rarity. It is titled Dynamite Q-cup 124-senchi miryoku no subete (ダイナマイトＱカップ124センチ魅力のすべて; CAV70-47), and was released by Kasakura Publishing (笠倉出版社). The cover gives such interesting data as Mariko's boobs weigh 3.6 kg, and have a volume of 4,000 cc....

(The two images above are only for decoration and have no relation to this video as far as I know.) Wikipedia gives the release date as October 1, 1994, but all non-Wikipedia derived online references give only the release month, not day. I've had images of this video cover for years, but somehow overlooked this video in both my Wikipedia and Boobpedia articles on Mariko. It does seem to be a rare item. I find no information on this video at all, except for its title, cover and release information. It has an Amazon entry, which gives its ISBN numbers: ISBN-10: 4773070471; ISBN-13: 978-4773070477. Another site gives its running time as 45 minutes (as does the cover), and selling price as 25,000円 (over $250), and out of stock... Anyone who has information on this elusive Mariko release is encouraged to report!

Mariko II: Legend of Super Big Tits Q

Mariko Morikawa's second DVD was released a month to the day after her debut. Titled  Legend of Super Big Tits Q, Eat These Tits (超乳伝説Ｑ　この乳をくらえッ - Chonyû densetsu Q: Kono chichi wo kurae; AS-378; August 21, 1994), like her previous video, it was released by Athena and directed by Hikaru Kitô (鬼闘光).

Mariko received some attention in America with this video through a review in the Summer 1999 issue of Damon Foster's fanzine Oriental Cinema (#18). (She is on the cover above, second down from the left-- the one with the big boobs.) Foster paid her the compliment, "Mariko Morikawa may be considered too 'pudgy' for most men's taste, but I think she's an intense beauty. Sure, she's got some meat on her, but it's in all the right places. She's definitely not built like some average anorexic model or porn star." He goes on to praise scenes such as Mariko's sweatshirt bouncing and flouncing all over while she's jogging, and the interviews in which her spectacular cleavage is on display. He dumps on the video in general, but, since he seems to be an appreciator of ample female flesh, I don't really know why he should. It's an AV, and that format promises nothing in the way of cinematic quality. We get to see Mariko in action, and she's an eye-full, and that's all that should matter. I remember being annoyed by the early AVs-- I'm talking early/mid-80s-- which were like mini Pink Films: all story and camera-work-- without the quality in those areas that a good Pink Film could have-- and little nudity. You get an AV for the nudity/sex. If you want quality erotic cinema, you get a Pink Film or Roman Porno... (Foster also makes the usual complaints about Japanese censorship, but again, that just comes with the territory, and, personally, I prefer it...)

Foster expresses some confusion as to the "Q" in the title, so maybe this is the best place for my explanation of this mystery. The first time I saw the "Q-cup" claim on Mariko's first AV title ("Ultra-Q"), I just assumed it was a publicity gimmick. It seems an obvious reference to the classic Japanese sci-fi TV show, Ultra Q (1965), implying that Mariko's huge bazoom was to be greeted with awe akin to the supernatural mysteries presented by this "Twilight Zone of Japan". This series, from Tsuburaya Productions led directly to the Ultraman series the following year, and to dozens of sequel series, which were still coming out in 2000... I'm tempted to say it influenced the sentai / Power Rangers-type shows too, but they derive more from the 1958 series, Gekkô kamen. With Eiji Tsuburaya behind them, the Ultra-series come more directly from the Toho sci-fi/Godzilla series... but I digress...

Mariko's first "Bomber Girl" video (seen above)-- the first video in that series-- (ザ・爆乳 VOL.1) gives her bust measurement as a more reasonable 104cm I-cup. In earlier articles (still floating around the 'Net), I took this to be her first video, but it actually seems to have been released in December, some five months after her debut with the "Q-cup"-title...
As a side-note: While digging through the Dekkappedlian archives to find my copy of Oriental Cinema, I came across a few of my old Pink Film books, discovering a wealth of poster and film still images waiting to be scanned an uploaded. They had been set aside until I got the online poster project under control, and that point approaches...

Mariko's Debut: The awful boobs come appear!

Tonight, in our first step in a review of Mariko Morikawa's career, we start with her AV debut: Ultra Q-Cup 124cm: Tits Way Too Huge (ウルトラＱカップ１２４㎝　巨大すぎるデカパイ - Ultra Q-cup 124cm: Kyodai sugiru dekapai; AS-373), released on July 21, 1994 by Athena (アテナ映像). Athena's homepage is blocked where I am-- possibly anywhere outside Japan-- but this studio got a little international attention for producing Traci Takes Tokyo in 1986. The charmingly Japlish tag on Mariko's first video trumpets "Never ever biggest!! The awful boobs come appear," and the Japanese tags claim she has the biggest boobs seen in the history of Japanese AV... which might just be true... I don't remember seeing any bigger, and I was following pretty closely through Japanese magazines during that era...

With Hikaru Kitô (鬼闘光) behind the camera, Mariko was in good hands with this debut video. According to Japanese Wikipedia, Kitô, who directed Mariko's first three videos, is a big bust specialist. Born in 1953, he started film work during the Nikkatsu Roman Porno era, and worked as Assistant Director to famed Pink/AV-director "Yoyochu" (Tadashi Yoyogi), whose roots go back to the very beginning of the Pink Film genre, with World Eiga in 1963. Kitô started work for Athena in 1981, and debuted as director with an AV starring Japanese big-boob legend Eri Kikuchi (Boobpedia article). Kitô also goes by the name Matsuhiro Takahashi (高​橋​松​廣).

I'm having difficulties locating images from Mariko's early work and, when found, accurately identifying which video they came from. I'll add to this post as more become available...

I linked Pink Film posters again this morning, until I got about 100 away from finishing, at which point I reached stills. Film stills present a special problem here since there is no text to help in identifying which film they came from, so I had to search file names on my old computer for them... I switched to identifying some of the new posters I've found since moving computers. That took up most of the rest of the day. Then in the evening, I FINISHED the poster Picasaweb/blog work! Whew! Next step will be finishing downloading and ID'ing of new posters, then copy them to the old computer where I can clean them better, then back here for uploading to the blog...

Mariko Morikawa in her first Tokyo Topless appearance

For the evening's boobish research, my mind wandered back to an old favorite: Mariko Morikawa (森川まりこ / 森川まり子). I typed her name into Google, and revisited a lot of old images and video clips, and also came across some I hadn't seen before. We'll look at a few here today, then maybe some tomorrow, and, Hell, if I have enough material, maybe spend a  whole week or more on Ms. Morikawa... As a founding member of the Japanese BBW genre, she is worthy of our attention and adulation...

Mariko has a lot of personal meaning for me, beyond her status as one of the first, and greatest of the Japanese BBW genre. I first encountered Mariko in a copy of the fine publication, D-Cup Japan which I picked up while in Japan, in Autumn of 1994. Most profiles say she was born in Chiba Prefecture on February 10, 1971, though the profile on the magazine shoot above says Fukushima on November 14, 1973. I doubt either one is truer than her name is, but consistency would be nice. I suspect they changed her birthdate later just to make her sound younger... Her measurements given above are 110-82-100. Most profiles give her as 124-66-96cm.

An early magazine appearance, before AV work

Before Mariko, Kimiko Matsuzaka's debut in 1989 was the most momentous event for me, a lifelong fan of Japanese adult entertainment with a penchant for the bigger ladies. Kimiko's career focused on her boobs, neglecting the fact that much of her charm was in her overall fleshiness, which was unique in the Japanese AV at the time. Mariko's stupendous bosom, and BBW-ish figure obviously signaled a new era in the appreciation of the larger lady in Japanese erotic entertainment.The magazine layout above, apparently from before she started her AV career, shows Mariko at a soapland called "Crystal... something", and specifically touts her "plumper" figure, which highly unusual for a Japanese girl of that day. This article gives her age as 20, which, accepting a 1971 birth, would make it 1991-- which I highly doubt. 1993 is more likely, though her 1994 debut videos give her age at that time as 23...

After Mariko became more popular, I remember seeing a cartoon of an exaggeratedly fat woman with Mariko's face cooing, "But I'm a G-cup." The meaning being, yeah, she's got big boobs, but so what?, she's fat. Obviously a criticism of Mariko and her acolytes. But, despite the natural resistance from the mainstream, I think it is from the point of Mariko's debut that we can really trace the beginning of appreciation for larger women in Japan.Again, by "larger", I mean chubby. Watching these videos reminded me how very short Mariko is, and this is part of her charm. She stands a mere 150 cm (4'11").

Mariko again became a personal turning point in 1998 when I still did not have Internet. Internet talk was all the buzz, but I didn't see what advantage I could get from it yet, until one day when I sampled an online computer, typed in "Mariko Morikawa", and up popped images such as that above, from a sight called "Tokyo Topless". From that moment I was sold. I got my computer online FAST, and that was that. I uploaded about a hundred snapshots I had made from a couple of Mariko's VHS tapes, and I still see them floating around the 'Net occasionally... We'll continue our visit with Mariko for another few days...

BomBom Ojisan's Triumphant Return

I spent most of my online time today working on the Pink Film poster Picasaweb/Blogger linking project. I got past #300 in the last album, which leaves only about 150 to go... After that, I catch up on the posters I've accumulated since November, and then it's just maintenance work...

Tonight we have great news from BomBom Ojisan. He has been missing in action from his blog since December, and we were beginning to worry about him. He comes back today, however, full of piss and vinegar, showing off an amazing new discovery: The N-cup sporting Ririka-chan (りりか).

Besides her awesome bazoom, Ririka looks to be quite a pretty girl too, which is not always the case with discoveries from the Ojisan... So far, these two images are all I can find. Her DVD is due out on May 1, and I'll add more on Ririka and her DVD to this post, as more info becomes available.

Momoka and Kanon: ICD-216; Many Others: IOD-23

My work on the translation of the last Pink Film studio filmography-- Okura / OP Eiga-- continued today. This studio released the first Pink film, Flesh Market (肉体の市場 - Nikutai no Ichiba), in 1962, and seems to be the only studio still going strong, releasing three films a month, so this is the biggest filmography of the lot. I finished the 1970s today, meaning I'm closer to the point-- about the '90s, I think-- where I've already done most of the translating. Still a lot of work, but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel...

But tonight at this blog, let's look in on another of IZM's new crop of releases. This one stars Momoka Fujita (藤田ももか) and Kanon (カノン). We first met Momoka in the December 16 post reviewing her appearance with Madam Keiko. I don't think Kanon has been seen here...

As with the new Sara Aikawa / Masaki Amamiya team-up, this one is due on March 22. Titled Dan-iji! Bakuniku pair (男虐！爆肉ペア; ICD-216), the .WMV video clip can be downloaded HERE, and the image gallery is HERE.

Off-hand, I notice Sara Aikawa, Hiyoko Makino, Shion Amane, Yui Igarashi, and Iori Kuroki... Certainly a full-course meal! But since it is clips from other releases, a separate look at this DVD is probably not necessary...
